A chance to get involved with the Inclesmoor Map embroidery project at Goole Museum

The Inclesmoor Map embroidery project at Goole Museum has had a great response so far – the next meeting will be at the museum on Wednesday, 7 November, and there will be another on Wednesday, 21 November.

The Inclesmoor Map is a 600 year old map of this area held at the National Archives and is their oldest map. Museum volunteers are creating an exhibition for 2019 based on the Map. They are creating a new version of it to display as part of the exhibition: think Bayeux tapestry, but not on so large a scale.

Museum curator, Debbie Hardy, said : “There are still a couple of villages that have not been allocated, so if you fancy coming along and getting involved, you would be very welcome. Have a cuppa while Jill Hall of the Selby Embroiderer’s Guild talks you through the project. All materials will be provided.

“Even if you haven’t done anything like this before but fancy having a go, please do come along. Throughout the project we are having regular get-togethers to stitch as a group and talk about progress, alongside a cuppa and a biscuit – or two!  Be part of our exciting project and bring a new piece of textile art to life.”

Goole Museum is located in Carlisle Street, Goole, DN14 5DS (telephone number: 01405 768963).

The opening hours are: Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Wednesday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm. Closed for lunch 12 noon to 12.30pm (Wednesdays 1.30 to 2pm).
