Airmyn Bowls Club secures county double

If you have ever thought of taking up the relaxing sport of bowls, there is no time like the present with Airmyn Bowls Club on an unprecedented high having secured an historic double.

Not content with winning the Humberside County Team Finals (Markham and Drayton Trophies), the Club has also been named the Humberside Sports Association Triples League Champions, with one game to spare.

Having previously won the Markham Trophy in 2012 and 2013, Airmyn were confident of putting up a good show against strong opposition from Blossom Way Bowls Club, Immingham. They won all four rinks resoundingly with an aggregate score of 74 – 47. They then took on local rivals Howden, with a final aggregate score of 62 – 49.

The final week of the bowls season saw Airmyn Riverside play Fishlake and with the league title already secured, the Club confirmed its status as league champions with an emphatic 10 – 0 victory.

Having enjoyed an unusually warm summer season, the Airmyn Riverside bowlers have this year conceded just 15 rinks out of 124 matches. They have amassed 126 points to win the league comfortably from Jemmy Hirst on 98 points. And this for the 12th time of asking in the 15 years since their move from Hook Road.

Anyone wishing to take up bowls for the 2019 season should contact either Chris Morris (01405 763226) or Steve Theaker (01405 768526). Airmyn Bowls Club would also like to thank their many sponsors throughout the season.
