Badger setts damaged in two incidents

East Riding: Appeal for witnesses and information following two recent incidents where badgers’ setts have been damaged.

On 13 March someone caused damage to a badger sett near Newport, Brough.  The incident was reported to us on 14 March and we would appeal for anyone who saw what is believed to have been four people acting suspiciously in the area that night to call Humberside Police quoting log 166 14/03/18.

A second incident was reported on 20 March where several people were involved in killing a badger with dogs at Ousefleet near Goole at around 1am.  Any information on this incident would help bring those responsible to justice.

If you have any information to help with enquiries please call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log 86 20/03/18.

The information gathered from members of the public can help protect our wildlife.  If you suspect a badger sett has been interfered with or see any suspicious activity at or near a badger sett, such as men with terriers and digging equipment, please report this by calling Humberside Police on 101.  If there is an ongoing wildlife crime in progress please call 999.

Alternatively if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or email them with your information via their website https://crimestoppers-uk.org/get-involved/our-campaigns/national-campaigns/wildlife-crime/

Remember that badgers are protected by the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and it is a criminal offence to interfere with a badger or its sett.  If you see people damaging badger’s setts do not put yourself at danger call us on 999.  Those who engage in badger digging and baiting are dangerous.
