East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning Centre, in Goole, is opening its doors for an Easter Family Learning Day on Tuesday, March 29, from 9.30am-3pm.
The aim of the day is to showcase to local families what’s on offer at the Pasture Road venue and to sign up people to courses starting after the Easter break.
During the day, families will have the opportunity to take part in a series of family taster courses including:
Easter family crafts – Easter cards, flowers and baskets are just some of the craft skills explored in this fun and interactive family session. You can take home the crafts you make together.
Minecraft for all – is your child mad on gaming? Would you like to understand and monitor what they are doing, but it’s all a bit of a minefield? Using the popular Minecraft game, you will learn how this game can improve your child’s educational skills as well as introduce e-safety.
Easter family quest and quiz – for this quest and quiz you will need to use all of your maths, English, science and technology skills to help you save the day in this fun and interactive workshop.
Photography for families – Learn how to capture your images and use digital techniques to save, enhance and improve the photographs helping you to create your own unique family photos that you can either save electronically or arrange to have printed.
Nicki Berry, Goole centre manager, said: “Family learning is free and supports local residents who are looking to learn alongside their child. There are lots of courses going on at your local Goole Adult Learning Centre, so we want to use this day to showcase what’s on offer through a series of fun and interactive sessions that are suitable for the whole family. Everything you make you can take home too.”
On the day, adults will also have the opportunity to discover what their local centre offers in terms of courses that help to improve skills and gain new qualifications.
There is a wide range of courses on offer, including employability training, English Speaking for speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (STLS), all levels of English, maths and ICT courses, from beginner to advanced, British Sign Language (BSL), counselling, mentoring and photography courses.
Booking is not required on the day, but families are asked to bring a packed lunch. Activities are free and suitable for children, aged four-11.
