Green-fingered horticultural enthusiasts need to pop their thinking caps on and get planting if an entry in to Howden Show’s ‘grub in a tub’ class is on this year’s to-do list, as now is the time to get planting those seeds.
Introduced to the horticulture schedule two years ago, the ‘grub in a tub’ class has proved popular among adults and children alike. It requires entrants to grow something edible in a container no bigger than a bucket. The judges will be looking for entries that taste, smell and look good.
Prizes are available in both adult and children’s sections. Chairman of the committee, Sean Welsh said: “This class is a really fun way to encourage people of all ages to try their hand at growing their own food. Planning ahead is key – if you’re thinking of entering you’ll need to decide what you’re growing and get it planted sooner rather than later so that it’s ready for Howden Show on Sunday, July 3.”
