Good news for expectant mums

Goole mums-to-be are set to benefit from a £31,428 investment into local maternity services, which will create a high-tech observational room featuring state-of-the-art monitoring equipment.

The funding will be used to create a new facility on the central delivery suite at Scunthorpe General Hospital, which will be used for women who need additional care before or after delivery. Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) put in a bid for the money to the Department of Health’s preventing avoidable harm in maternity national fund, and were awarded a total of £31,428.
Head of midwifery Julie Dixon said: “This is excellent news for local women as over the coming months we will be able to create this room specifically for those needing that extra bit of care.”

Karen Cross, operational matron for maternity at Scunthorpe, said: “We currently have eight rooms on the unit, together with a birthing pool room. We will be using one of these to create the new high observational room which will have the latest monitoring equipment to hand.”
The money will provide state-of-the-art anaesthetic monitors, blood monitors and a birthing simulator.
