Goole Library and Museum is turning 50!

Goole Library and Museum will be celebrating its birthday tomorrow, 20th November, exactly 50 years to the day it opened!

Obviously their throwing a party to mark this momentous occasion! The fun will start from 10am, where there will be prizes, games, quizzes, refreshments and of course, that all important, birthday cake!

Castaway Musical Theatre group will be performing as well as BBC Look North’s Kate Sweeting will be swinging by to read a children’s story.

There’ll be chance to win a prize by taking part in the quiz all about Goole and the library and museum. Participants will have to find the answers hidden in the building.

To celebrate the anniversary, the building has been given a make over, with new window graphics as visitors approach the building from the Clocktower roundabout. Objects from the museum collection were used in the design, and it is hoped that improving the visibility of the museum will encourage new visitors.

Museum curator Debbie Hardy said: “We have lots of regular visitors, but it has been a longstanding issue that some visitors to the library just didn’t realise that there is a museum on the first floor. Even some long term residents of Goole didn’t know we were here. We have been in the same building for 50 years, so it is great to get this signage up just before our 50th anniversary celebrations on 20 November.

“If you haven’t visited us before, or haven’t popped in for a long time, come along from 10am and join in the party.

“If you can’t make it that day, we have six new exhibitions a year and a permanent gallery that tells the story of Goole. Kids are welcome, and we even have things for the very young to do. This is a fantastic, free community museum, and it belongs to everyone.”

So if you’re free tomorrow, why not come down to say a big happy 50th birthday to Goole’s Library and Museum!
