Luncheon Club launched after grant success

The Moorlands Community Charity have secured a generous grant of £30,000 from Anna Maria Charitable Trust to launch a new project The Luncheon Club which will complement their Meals On Wheels service.

The Luncheon Club is aimed at senior community members who may not have the opportunity to socialise as much as other. We will be holding weekly luncheons across our three sites which are West Park Café in Goole, along with The Moorlands Centre and Swinefleet Road Community Centre in Old Goole.

There will be activities such as meet and greet, tea dance, painting, cards, dominoes and much more (ideas welcome) and the charity are planning to run some day trips throughout the summer months. Customers will receive a meal of the day from The Meals On Wheels menu at a cost of £4.00 and £2.00 for the dessert. Hot/cold drinks and biscuits will be served throughout the session free of charge. Goole Go Far will provide free transport to and from our venues.

The new Luncheon Club Co-Ordinator, Sophie Nicholls said, “this is a welcome addition to the services our charity already offer and will provide social contact for people who may only see our Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver from one day to the next. We are hoping friendships form and even if it is difficult to get out, friends can contact each over the phone for a chat.”

The Luncheon Club is the newest part of them charities Meals on Wheels service which operates seven days a week, which has no age restriction for this service and they are hoping to expand this service to Cowick, Snaith, Carlton, Camblesforth and Drax so if anybody would like any more information on this please contact The Moorlands on 01405768111 or email meals@moorlandscharity.co.uk

Other services that The Moorlands have to offer include an IT Suite open to anyone free of charge (small charge for printing), a Migrant Support Service, they host various children and young people’s groups including youth club, cyber café and all girls group.

As a charity they are always looking for volunteers across the board to help out in all areas of the charity. If you are interested in volunteering please contact The Moorlands on 01405 768111 for more details.
