Opportunity Goole to host first in series of sector-specific monthly employment events

Opportunity Goole will be hosting the first in series of sector-specific employment events later this month with the aim of helping local people to get into jobs and training in the hospitality sector.

Taking place on 26 June, from 12 noon to 2pm, at Goole Job Centre on North Street in Goole, the informal drop-in session will give job seekers, including school and college leavers, an opportunity to meet recruiters from the hospitality sector, and speak to employment and skills experts about the training and support on offer to help them secure work.

The June event will be followed by three further sector-specific employment events, the dates and themes for which are as follows:

  • Wednesday 24 July – Public sector services: A drop-in session for local people interested in securing work in the public sector.
  • Wednesday 21 August – Apprenticeships: A drop-in session for local people interested in securing an apprenticeship and local businesses looking to take on an apprentice.
  • Wednesday 25 September – Care sector: A drop-in session for local people looking for work in the care sector.

Phil Jones, Chair of the Goole Town Deal Board, said: “Funded by Goole Town Deal, the Opportunity Goole team is making a real difference to both local people and businesses. By helping Goole’s residents to secure employment and helping its businesses to recruit people with the skill set that they need from the local area, rather than looking further afield, this project is an important element of the Town Deal Board’s efforts to boost the local economy.

“I’d encourage anyone with an interest in working in the hospitality sector to go along to the event on 26 June, and those who are interested in the themes for July, August and September to pop a note in their diaries about the dates for those.”

Businesses in the hospitality sector that would like to have a presence at the June event are asked to email the Opportunity Goole team at: opportunity.goole@eastriding.gov.uk.

One of eight projects funded by Goole Town Deal, Opportunity Goole provides easy access to information about local job opportunities, training provision, business support and more to anyone over the age of 16 years, regardless of whether they’re employed, unemployed or retired. The team’s role is to help local individuals gain the knowledge and skills that they need to secure employment, and ensure that employers can recruit local people with the skillset that they’re looking for.
