We chat to Gracie the leading star of Annie

It’s not long now until the curtain goes up for the Goole Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society production of Annie at Goole Academy on Tuesday 29th October – Saturday 2nd November.

The musical is produced and directed by W L Knight and is bound to be a show not to miss!

Now with just one week until the first show, Our Goole caught up with Gracie Caley, who is playing the lead role of Annie in the hit musical, to find out more about her and the role she is playing.

Gracie is only 11 and this is her first lead role at the amateur society.

How long have you been rehearsing for?
We began rehearsing in April – it feels like a long time ago now!

Have you performed in a show this scale before?
I performed in ‘Whistle down the wind’ last year but I didn’t have a big part, so this is totally different this year.

How have rehearsals gone?
Amazing although some nights have been hard – we haven’t finished until very late but I get on with it as it all helps to make the show the best it can be.

What are you most looking forward to on opening night?
Seeing all the faces watching me, it makes me feel really happy that I’m doing it.

Are you nervous?
A little nervous but mainly excited, I think I get giddy sometimes as I just want to be on stage now.

What’s your favourite song from Annie?
My favourite song has to be ‘Tomorrow’ – it is a classic and you think of it straight away when you speak about ‘Annie’.

What made you audition for the role?
I’ve loved Annie for a long time and I’m always singing along when I watch.  When I auditioned, I thought if I did get the part I would be gobsmacked.  Then to find out I actually got the part, I cried because I was so proud of myself.

What do you love about the musical?
Everything!

Do you have any other plans to perform in any other shows?
Yes I do. If I can get through all the nights I’d love to carry on with Goole Amateurs for many years to come. I love performing and Goole Amateurs gives me loads of opportunities to do that.
