Police hunt for convicted sex offender

Police are hunting a registered sex offender who has breached the terms of his licence, and information suggests he may be in or have visited Hull and surrounding areas.

Humberside Police have issued an appeal on behalf of their North Yorkshire colleagues, who are hunting for convicted sex offender, Barry Gibson.

Gibson (55) was convicted of a number of sexual offences resulting in him receiving a life sentence in 2000.  He was released on license on November 26, 2015 subject to a number of conditions.

On May 6, 2016 Gibson, who was living in the Boroughbridge Road area of York, failed to comply with a condition. An order was issued to recall him to prison.

The last sighting of Gibson was on Thursday, May 5 – the day before he breached his court order – outside the taxi rank near York Minster.

He was last seen wearing dark trousers and a jacket which is red on the top half and a dark colour on the bottom half. He was carrying a JD Sports bag over his shoulder.

He has links across Yorkshire, particularly in the North and West Ridings and information suggests he may be in or have visited Hull and surrounding area.

Please call Humberside Police on 101 quoting log number 531 of 11 May if you have information. Calls can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

Members of the public should not approach Gibson, and should report any sightings of him immediately on 999.
