A service is being re-launched at Goole hospital which will put an end to women having to travel further afield for treatment.
From January, women will be able to access a termination of pregnancy service in Goole. Currently they have to travel to other providers such as Hull, Doncaster or Scunthorpe.
Wendy Chester, gynaecology ward sister at Scunthorpe hospital, who will be leading the service, said: ‘We recognise that in many cases this can be a very difficult decision to make. From Tuesday January 3, women will be able to stay closer to home when undergoing treatment and benefit from the support of our discreet, friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental team of nurses.’
Women will be able to ask their GP, sexual health clinic or family planning services to refer them into the clinic or they can self-refer themselves.
The service will only provide medical terminations for pregnancies under nine weeks.
Wendy said: ‘What’s great about the clinic being held at Goole hospital is that women can come in and bring their partner or a family member or friend to come along with them for support throughout.’
If you would like to self-refer yourself to the clinic, please get in touch by calling 01724 290419 and choosing option ‘pregnancy advisory service’.
