Workers at Associated British Ports in Goole are facing an uncertain future following the firm’s recently announced redundancy consultations, covering their operations on the Humber.
In a statement the firm said it had started a consultation with staff about redundancies.
Speaking to Our Goole, a spokesperson for ABP said:
‘We can confirm that ABP has commenced consultation with colleagues and employee representatives regarding potential redundancies within our operations on the Humber.
‘ABP is investing around £800 million on the Humber and we remain focused on seizing new opportunities to deliver growth across all our ports.’
The company reported that the move reflected significant falls in coal volumes and the closure of coal-fired power stations.
ABP employs almost 1,000 workers across their Goole, Grimsby, Hull and Immingham sites.
