State-of-the-art mobile theatre has been delivered to Goole Hospital

This morning Goole and District Hospital received a special delivery, that being a brand new mobile theatre unit.

The new addition comes as part of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) plans as it heads towards winter.

The mobile theatre will allow an extra 120 operations to be carried out each month meaning more patients across Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole will be able to receive the treatment they need. The theatre is scheduled to be on site for six months, therefore 720 people should benefit.

Pam Clipson, director of strategy, planning and performance said: “We are working hard behind the scenes planning for the winter period; this mobile theatre is a creative solution to building extra capacity into our theatres ensuring we can see more people.

“Our priority is to ensure we are delivering safe and effective care. This additional theatre will help provide capacity during the winter period.

“This is a fully functioning mobile theatre, the kind that has been used in many sites around the country.”

The mobile theatre was delivered today and is scheduled to be fully operational on November 26 and will see general surgery, urology, gynaecology and orthopaedic patients.

Vanguard Healthcare, which is providing the unit also provide theatre staff to work in the theatre. The surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses will be from NLaG.

The new theatre, which will be operational until May 2019 will be placed next to the main hospital, adjacent to the staff car park. There will be a purpose built link corridor to ensure patients feel the theatre is still part of the hospital.
