Tasty treats in store for locals as East Riding FEASTivals set to launch

A series of events set to excite tastebuds are coming to East Yorkshire towns from January 2022.

Known as the East Riding FEASTivals, the menu of activities will be a culinary celebration of our high streets – showcasing local street foods, bars of distinction and al fresco dining – all served with a large helping of live music and a side-order of children’s entertainment full of fun, colour and character.

The FEASTivals events are planned to take place from late January to early March, running at weekends from mid-morning into the evening, across the region as follows:

January 29 & 30 – Hessle FEASTival 2022
February 5 & 6 – Hornsea FEASTival 2022
February 12 & 13 – Market Weighton FEASTival 2022
February 19 & 20 – Withernsea FEASTival 2022
February 26 & 27 – Howden FEASTival 2022
March 5 & 6 – Contingency date if bad weather impacts plans

Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We’re really looking forward to the launch of these FEASTivals in our local towns and it will be a terrific way to bring communities together and back out on our high streets.

“The Made in East Yorkshire Christmas Market in Beverley was a great success, and it’s fantastic that we’re now able to bring a flavour of those market events to numerous other towns in the East Riding.

“Following the development of town centre recovery plans with local elected members, we have identified locations that have the potential and desire to explore new events or markets. These events will generate interest and footfall in town centres and are an exciting opportunity for businesses to reach new audiences.

“I would very much encourage residents in these areas to visit the FEASTivals when they are in their town and to continue to support the local retailers in the area, as we all hope for a prosperous start to 2022. I very much hope these events bring interest and joy to our market towns during the darker winter months,” councillor Evison added.

All local retailers and hospitality providers within the hot food, grocery foods, and associated crafts & artisan goods sectors are invited to participate in the FEASTival programme.

Local businesses can choose to get involved in up to three different ways:

  1. Take a stall at the event in your town or all the towns. Stalls will be available to local traders at a concessionary rate, and offer a great opportunity to engage with a new audience in a different setting.
  2. Run a promotion at the same time as the event – the council will work with you to promote this as part of the event.
  3. Extend opening hours to capitalise on the increased footfall in the town centre.
