The Green Team is delighted to announce that the charity has been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.
Cheryl Price, Development Officer, said: “As you can imagine, the last 18 months have been really challenging for small, charitable groups and the pandemic has drastically affected the charities fundraising efforts, so we’re grateful to have this partnership with the local Co-op.
“We’re urging local members to choose us as their cause so we can deliver our project and help more people in Goole and the surrounding areas.
“We’re trying to make things better for local people in our community who may not have the knowledge, skills or confidence to grow and cook home-grown produce. We provide polytunnels and an allotment site where anyone can join and learn new skills. Volunteers learn from each other and there is intergenerational work that takes place.
“Many people who are on low incomes have to visit foodbanks regularly. In addition, many have little knowledge or experience of how to prepare healthy meals for themselves and their families. Through this project we will work with local people and teach them how to plant, tend, harvest, prepare and cook home-grown vegetables and fruit.
“When members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, 1p from every pound spent goes to support local causes like ours.”
Co-op members can select us their local cause by visiting coop.co.uk and The Green Team hope that people will visit the Co-op website or download the Co-op app and select them as their Local Community Fund cause so they can continue making a difference.
