November has proved to be a month of celebration for the team at Drewton’s Farm Shop, who have won two highly coveted regional awards – in just two days!
At last week’s Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs), the popular farm shop near South Cave beat off fierce competition to win the ‘Remarkable Cuppa’ category for the quality of the food and drink offering available in its tea room and restaurant. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at Doubletree by Hilton in Hull on Thursday 9 November.
In reaching their decision, the REYTA judges agreed: “At Drewton’s, you are met with a view of the East Yorkshire countryside, neat and well-maintained grounds and the café is light and airy with a hint of formality. The judges felt that the staff were welcoming, professional and knowledgeable about the extensive menu, daily specials and dietary requirements. With excellent presentation of freshly prepared food, a passion for local produce is apparent and lives up to the strong reputation held for serving fresh, locally sourced and ethically produced food and drink.”
The following day, Drewton’s Farm Shop, which also comprises holiday cottages, wedding and events venue The Manor Rooms and popular seasonal attractions, such as Freddie’s Pumpkin Patch, was named Agri Business of the Year at the Yorkshire and Humberside Family Business Awards. The ceremony took place at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate on Friday 10 November and aims to celebrate the success and accomplishments of family-owned businesses throughout the region. The awards were presented by food writer, broadcaster, and proud northerner Nigel Barden, along with co-founders of the Family Business Community, Dave Clarkson and Sue Howorth.
Katie Taylor (MBE), who owns and runs Drewton’s Farm Shop, said: “It was absolutely sensational to go to these two awards ceremonies – held just a day apart – and come away with a major award from each of them.
“We pride ourselves on offering our customers a great choice of tasty and beautifully presented food and drink options, from hearty brunch and light bites to home-cooked lunches and tempting afternoon teas, all made with fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. We cater for all dietary requirements, and guarantee customers a warm welcome and a memorable dining experience in a friendly and relaxed setting.
“To win the Agri Business of the Year Award was equally special because The Drewton Estate, where we’re based, remains a working arable farming estate. My son, Freddie, is also very much a part of the business these days, having developed and launched his own hugely successful annual pumpkin patch event, as well as taking responsibility for our marketing activity. I founded our family business in 2010 and it’s wonderful to see the next generation now playing an important role in its continuing growth and success.”
